World Wide Prints is a travel-inspired e-commerce platform designed to bring the beauty of global destinations into people's homes. This project focused on creating a user-friendly experience that blends functionality, aesthetics, and storytelling to showcase curated art prints from around the world.
The challenge was to design a website that not only ignites the wanderlust of potential customers but also streamlines the journey of discovering, drawing inspiration from, and effortlessly purchasing prints and frames. With many websites are focused on digital download, we wanted to take it in a different direction while keeping ease in mind.
My design process began with in-depth, empathy-driven research to understand user needs and pain points in the print e-commerce space. I identified a key opportunity to differentiate World Wide Prints by offering ready-to-ship physical products, prioritizing convenience and unique inspiration over DIY digital downloads. Guided by user personas, I bridged the gap between customer needs and service offerings, iterating from low-fidelity to high-fidelity prototypes with usability testing at every stage to refine the experience.
To kick off the design process, I conducted a thorough competitor analysis and engaged in in-depth user interviews to gather valuable insights.
After completing my research and gaining a deeper understanding of the user, I developed a user persona named Katie. This persona served as a tool to identify and empathize with the user's pain points, needs, and goals, ultimately guiding the creation of a tailored solution.
I aimed to ensure the design fully embodied the insights gained from my research. To generate ideas, I employed various brainstorming techniques, which led to identifying key features for the project. These include:
Using Figma as my primary design tool, I began by sketching out a low-fidelity (lo-fi) concept to establish the foundational structure and layout of the design. This allowed me to focus on functionality and user flow without getting bogged down by visual details.
Once the lo-fi concept was validated, I transitioned to creating a high-fidelity (hi-fi) prototype, incorporating polished visuals, branding elements, and interactive features. Throughout the process, I conducted usability tests to improve the prototype and push forward with each iteration. Below, you can see a few pages from the hi-fi prototype.
• A one-stop shop for prints and frames, streamlining the shopping experience.
• A travel quiz to help users find art that resonates with them while collecting emails for engagement.
• An intuitive filtering system to simplify searches.
• An interactive search feature allowing users to explore art by world region.
The solution was in our travel inspired quiz. With this quiz, we offer a fun way to keep the user engaged and on our platform longer, while giving them exactly what they they are looking for in travel-inspired prints, while collecting emails for the marketing team. It connects with the users emotionally while providing a personalized touch to the products.
To wrap up this project, I focused on a creative approach for the UI design. I wanted the user interface to reflect all the empathy focused user experience work. Each design phase had many thorough Figjam brain storming sessions and going back to one thing- the user.
