BME & Street Care

Introduction

Challenge

In February 2025, I began working with Bright Mind Enrichment and their subsidiary, Street Care, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community wellness, tech innovation, and support for people experiencing homelessness. As a volunteer UX designer, I was entrusted with redesigning Street Care’s homepage to improve usability, clarity, and impact. I also have been tasked with creating various digital assets.

When I joined the project, the Street Care homepage was outdated both visually and functionally. The design felt cluttered, the messaging wasn’t clearly organized, and important resources were buried and hard to find. My challenge was to modernize the look and feel of the site, create a more intuitive user experience, and better communicate Street Care’s mission to new and returning visitors.

Design Work & Processes

Discovery & Re-design

I began by auditing the original homepage and quickly identified key issues: overwhelming text, unclear calls-to-action, and poor visual hierarchy. The team also requested new features like an SEO-focused section for resource links and a highlight carousel to showcase success stories and updates. After researching best practices from similar nonprofit sites, I created a cleaner homepage structure that prioritized simple navigation, emotional engagement, and clear user pathways.

While reworking the homepage, I kept the needs of key users in mind: individuals looking to donate their time or money, people seeking resources for themselves or others, and those wanting to learn how to make a difference. It was important to create clear, welcoming pathways for each group, making it easy for them to take action without feeling overwhelmed. I aimed to foster a sense of connection and empowerment through thoughtful design choices, helping users quickly find the tools and opportunities they needed to support Street Care’s mission.

Various Design Work

In addition to the homepage redesign, I supported Bright Mind Enrichment and Street Care with a range of design needs. I created printed membership cards for both organizations, designed a professional email signature for the Executive Director, and produced various digital assets used throughout the homepage prototype.

Each piece was designed to maintain brand consistency and support their broader communication goals. It has been great to be trusted with various design aspects across their different websites.

Conclusion

Working with Bright Mind Enrichment and Street Care has been a rewarding opportunity to apply my design skills toward meaningful social impact. This project strengthened my ability to adapt to nonprofit needs, balance organizational goals with user needs, and create designs that are both practical and mission-driven. Through research, thoughtful design, and collaboration, I helped Street Care build a stronger online presence to better serve their community — and gained valuable experience working on real-world challenges that make a difference.
